１．アナウンサー、ペドロと挨拶
Ippei, what’s up man.
一平、調子どうですか？
Hi, what’s going on?
どうも、ご機嫌いかが？

Is a home run derby something you’ve always wanted to compete in?
もう、ずっとやりたいと思ってた事はホームランダービーだったのでしょうか？
ずっと出たいとは思っていたので、招待して頂いて光栄だなと思っています。
Yeah, (this is) something I always wanted to do and I was really happy to get the invitation.
Now how do you think you’re going to perform tonight?
Are there any nerves at all?
緊張してますか？どういう結果になると思いますか？
まぁ緊張してますしー、まぁ今もね、こうやってテレビで見てる人達、試合より緊張するのでー
こういう方が苦手だなと思ってます。
Definitely there are some nerves but I’m more nervous about talking to you guys because I see you guys on TV.
２．唐突なお願い

３．二刀流について
When did you start pitching and hitting?
いつピッチングとバッティングを始めたんですか？
Was it Little League? Was it early on? What happened?
リトルリーグから？それともそれ以前？どうだったのでしょう？
もうずっと、ピッチャーと、まぁ最初ショートとか守ってたんですけど、
高校ぐらいからは外野になってていう感じですね。
Yeah, ever since I was little, I pitched and actually played shortstop growing up.
But once I hit high school, that’s when I started playing more outfield rather than shortstop.
So if you weren’t DH, would you play the outfield?
という事は、もしDHでなかったのなら、外野手になってたって事ですか？
そうですね。まぁ日本でも外野守ってたりしてたんでー、はい。
Yeah that’s something I would be doing.
I did that in Japan actually my first couple of years.
４．マウンドと打席では何考えてますか？
What is the difference between the thought process
between pitching and facing a pitcher?
ピッチングするのとピッチャーと対戦するのとでは、思考プロセスにどんな違いがありますか？
打席の中では特にピッチャーの顔つきだったりとか、雰囲気だったりとかは
結構見たりするので、ピッチャーでいる時よりはバッターの時の方が
、そういうのは分かりやすいかなと思います。
Yeah, when someone is hitting, he likes to pick up on the pitcher’s like expression like their body language.
Their like swag I guess.
That kind of gives them some tips at the play more than when he’s pitching.
Does it come across his mind you know the approach he takes
when he’s pitching against a guy like Aaron Judge?
アーロン・ジャッジのような選手に投げる時は、どんな対法が頭に浮かびますか？
When you’re hitting it’s like you have to make the adjustment,
read the thought process and at the same time hit the ball, hit it with power, hit for average. How difficult is that?
もちろんピッチャー心理、バッターの心理は分かっていると思うんですけど、
ジャッジみたいなパワーヒッターと対戦する時は自分はパワーヒッターなので、
ある程度、バッターの心理とかは読んだりすると思うんですけど、
そういうのはどう上手くやってるんですか？
どうなのかというのは、よく考えます。その回球だったりとか、
例えばカウントによってだったりとか、自分だったらどういう風に
自分と対戦した時にプロセスを踏むかというのはよく考えるので
まぁプレーしている時にはそういう風に考えます。
Yeah, he puts himself in like the batter shoes and see what he would do in certain counts and certain pitches,
and that he does think about that when he’s pitching in etc. so.
It is amazing.
それは凄い！
５．ピッチャーかバッター１本に絞るとしたらどっち？
So if they took away one of them you couldn’t pitch or you couldn’t hit
and they made you do one or the other, would you be as good a player (as you)?
もし、どっちかに絞れって言われた場合、バッター１本、
ピッチャー１本で行ったとしたら、その二刀流やっているより、
パフォーマンスを発揮できると思いますか？
んー、まぁ正直やったことが無いので、分からないんですけど、
まぁ、このバランスの中で上手いバランスで、こー回ってるので、
今はいい感じでなってるのかなってのは正直なところかなとは思ってます。
Yeah, so he’s never actually picked one. He’s always been doing both.
So he loves the balancing between both.
So it’s hard to tell you if he pick the one really excel in it or not.
He just really likes the balance.
６．憧れの選手は誰でした？
Well, I have one more question. You know double player I would say
because it’s an all star pitcher and an all star hitter who inspired him.
Who was his idol growing up that made him choose both sides of the game?
幼少期のアイドルというか憧れてた人は誰でしょうか？
その人の影響でその二刀流やるキッカケになった幼少期のアイドルというのは？
アイドル。。まぁ良く見てたのはイチローさんとか松井さんとかー
バッターはそうですね。ピッチャーはもちろんペドロさんすかね。
Yeah, he idolized Ichiro, Hideki Matsui obviously.
For pitcher, it had to be Mr. Pedro Martinez.

So I got to ask you this.

Pedro has been open about you would have loved to face Babe Ruth.

Would you like to face Babe Ruth when he was a pitcher?
And would you like your chances to hit off Babe Ruth?
ピッチャーのベイブルースと対戦したいと思った事はありますか？
それと、ヒットを打てる自身はありますか？
したいなとは思いますけど、打てるかなってのはちょっと分かんないですね。
自信は無いですけど。。
Definitely, on the facing. But can’t tell you if I could get the head off.
I’m not too confident.

Who do you think would win that battle?

Probably the hitter.

Yes.
そうなんです。
Now, is there like some sort of like a reason behind that
or are you gonna help communicate?
What’s the deal you catching?
なんで僕がキャッチャーなんですか？
まぁ、後ろに僕より緊張している人がいた方が楽かなと思って(^^)
Interested in having someone that’s more nervous than him right behind him.
That makes me plus nervous.
